Things to consider when considering
a Resthome/Hospital (continuing care),
you might be asking yourself these questions:
- Does the home look
inviting and clean?
- Do the staff and Residents
look happy?
- Is it an Accredited
facility?
- Is the Home in a good
location for my visitors?
- Are the bedrooms a
decent size?
- Is there an ensuite
available?
- Can I use my own furniture/TV/telephone?
- Does the Resthome
supply any furniture?
- Can I take my budgie/cat?
- Will my mobile scooter
go into my room?
- Is it far to my specialist/doctor/dentist?
- Is transport available
for doctor’s appointments?
- Can I have support/involvement
with care if desired?
- Does the Resthome
have experience in caring for people with my condition?
- Does the Resthome
have 24-hour Registered Nursing Care?
- Will my diet be structured
to fit my requirements?
- Does the Resthome
have access to an Occupational Therapist?
- Does the Resthome
have access to a physiotherapist?
- Should my health
deteriorate, can the Resthome continue to take care
of me?
- Do they have a good
activity programme?
- Can I go shopping/visiting
or keep up other interests?
- Is it far to the
shops?
- Is there a view/gardens?
- Is the Resthome smoke
free?
- Do they have a good
cook?
- What can the Resthome/Hospital
offer in the way of equipment for my changing needs?
Ie: Electronic beds. Shower beds, Lifting hoist
These questions were compiled as a result of a survey
conducted on residents and family/whanau who have experienced
Resthome/Private Hospital environments and what they
felt was important. Rhapsody’s management felt
that a check list like this may assist you to make a
more informed decision.
